Download both files while you have internet. Copy them to a USB drive to install around the lab. Each classroom creates its own identity.

Main PC installer — preparing

Public release being prepared. Build and package checks are complete; a fresh Windows installation in a new lab still needs a pilot check. Start with one main PC and one student PC. Confirm that the student appears online and its screen opens before installing the rest of your lab.

Windows 11 or Windows 10 22H2 (build 19045+), x64 Intel/AMD. Administrator access is needed for installation. These installers don’t support macOS, Linux, ARM, or 32-bit Windows.

YOUR SETUP, STEP BY STEP

A working lab starts here.

Keep this guide open, or to take around the classroom.

Before you begin

Use one main PC and connect all classroom PCs to the same local network. Ethernet cables through the same switch or router are the best starting point. Keep your main PC switched on. Save open work before installation or updates.

01

On the MAIN PC

The teacher’s computer only.

  1. Open “Mabni Lab Main PC Setup.exe”. Use a Windows administrator account to install it.
  2. Enter your classroom name. For example, “School name — Lab A”.
  3. Choose the awake option. “Keep this PC awake while plugged in” is checked by default. Leave it on for a classroom desktop, or untick it to keep your existing power settings.
  4. Click “Install MAIN PC”. Wait for “Your MAIN PC is ready”.
  5. Open “MABNI LAB” on the desktop. Leave this main PC switched on, then move to a student PC.
02

On each STUDENT PC

Repeat on every student’s computer.

  1. Open “Mabni Lab Student PC Setup.exe”. The main PC must already be installed and switched on.
  2. Choose your main PC. Setup searches the network. If several main PCs appear, select the computer for this classroom.
  3. Check the name, then confirm. Tick “I checked: this is the main PC for this classroom.”
  4. Click “Install STUDENT PC”. Wait for “This STUDENT PC is installed”.
  5. Sign out of Windows, then sign back in. Check MABNI LAB on the main PC: the student should appear online. Open its screen to verify the connection.

Check one student before doing the whole room.

Verify that the correct student appears online, open its screen, and check that the connection resumes after Windows restarts. Then repeat the same Student PC steps on the remaining computers.

Main PC wasn’t found?

Check that the main PC is on and Mabni Lab is installed there. Use the same local network; guest Wi-Fi and network isolation can prevent PC-to-PC connections. Click Find main PCs again.

If discovery is blocked, enter the main PC’s computer name or local IP address in setup and click Check address. Verify the displayed main PC name before confirming. Ask your network administrator to allow Mabni’s local classroom traffic if your school firewall blocks it; opening the public website does not connect the PCs.

The installer says this PC has the other role.

Use the Main PC installer on the teacher computer and the Student PC installer on student computers. The public installers refuse to silently change an existing PC’s role or move it to another classroom. Contact Mabni support for an intentional role change.

Updating an existing Mabni Lab installation?

Run the installer matching that PC’s existing role. It shows Update MAIN PC or Update STUDENT PC and preserves the existing classroom connection. Save work first. For student updates from the main app, use PC updates → Publish new installer and select the Student PC installer. Start with one student and check its result before updating the room.

PERFORMANCE YOU CAN ADJUST

Match the app
to your lab.

In MABNI LAB on the main PC, open Settings → Classroom preview speed, choose a profile, then click Save settings.

The app saves your choice for this Windows user. A focused student screen uses a separate higher-detail profile. The rates are capture targets; actual speed depends on the PCs and network.

DEFAULT

Balanced

2 previews / second

Start here for normal classroom use.

LESS TRAFFIC

Low bandwidth

1 preview / second

Choose this on slower PCs or a busy Wi-Fi network.

MORE TRAFFIC

Responsive

4 previews / second

Use when the lab has enough network and PC capacity.

Small choices that help.

  • Use wired Ethernet where possible, particularly on the main PC.
  • Close a focused student view when you finish; the app returns to the lower-detail classroom profile.
  • Keep ordinary student work saved. Install and update outside lessons.
  • If screens lag, choose Low bandwidth and check Windows network usage before increasing the rate.
